Every 2 weeks Friday at 8 pm we'll host piano concerts, including duets and soloists, on the parlor floor of our Brooklyn home, allowing for time to mingle and to get to know the musician after the performance.
What's the music?
Paul Ben-Haim, Berceuse
Dvorak-Kreisler “songs my mother taught me”
Brahms, sonata No.3, op.108 in D minor
Bartok, Romanian folk dances
Where does this music come from?
This concert is a joyous musical reunion between close friends, Luba and Anna, who have looked forward to working together again after a few years hiatus. Since their last concert together, both became mothers, and they embarked on a new life journey, helping each other navigate the challenges and sharing in the joys of motherhood. This program reflects our shared experience starting with the Sephardic lullaby by Ben-Haim, followed by Dvorak's Songs My Mother Taught Me. The Brahms Sonata No. 3 is the main work of the program and a masterpiece for this genre. It begins with a marking, "sotto voce" meaning "under voiced" as if a tender and solemn moment is being intimately shared between friends. The melody in the 2nd movement is much like a "cavatina" or song and is a favorite of ours. The 3rd mvt is a lighter "scherzando", a playful interlude that precedes the final movement which ends in a flurry of passion. We finish the program with the Bartok Roumanian Dances, an exuberant celebration of life, music and dance.
