Where does this music come from?

American Musical Theatre is one of the few truly American genres of music. Borrowing extensively from jazz and other popular forms, musical theater has continued to evolve in musical style, instrumentation, as well as in the stories being told. The result is a distinctly American form of story telling- reflecting the rich diversity of the time in which the music was created and the audience it was created for.
