Come celebrate Beethoven's birthday! What better way than by a wonderful string quartet performing his String Quartet #12 in E flat, Op. 127, performed by Carter Coleman and Juliette Greer (violins), Devin Moore (viola), and Clara Abel (cello).
What's the music?
Beethoven String Quartet No. 12 in Eb Major, Op. 127
Where does this music come from?
This is the first string quartet from Beethoven's "late" style period, during which time Beethoven went from near to complete deafness. His music from this period is characterized by intense expression and innovation - often it sounds like he's breaking every rule with this music, but on further examination we can see that it is deeply rooted in earlier traditions. This quartet's opening suggests a great heroicism, but overall it has as lightness and innocence unmatched by any of his other quartets. We think it's the perfect piece to play to celebrate his birthday, and we can't wait to share it with you!
