Every 2 weeks Friday at 8 pm we'll host piano concerts, including duets and soloists, on the parlor floor of our Brooklyn home, allowing for time to mingle and to get to know the musician after the performance.
What's the music?
Mozart, Sonata in D major
Ravel, La mere l’oye
Barber, Souvenirs
Where does this music come from?
Piano has always been an “orchestral” instrument and each of these composers on the program wrote extensively for orchestras. Piano duet might be the closest piano can get to that rich and grand sonority of an orchestra. Ravel and Barber collections of dances are often performed by orchestras, after composers orchestrated them. Both of these collections were also choreographed.
