Immerse yourself in a delightful collection of original compositions, and enjoy an evening of beautiful guitar music while getting a glimpse into Daniel's journey of conceiving, composing, performing, and recording this enchanting set of guitar pieces.
"Códices" was co-produced by Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and recorded by Grammy-awarded engineer Marc Whitmore. This project was made possible with the support of RACC’s Make|Learn|Build grant in 2022.
Daniel Reyes Llinás, born in Bogotá, Colombia, discovered his passion for music and guitar at the age of 9 while singing in his elementary school youth choir. After formal training with guitarist Carlos Castilla, he continued his guitar studies under Jaime Arias Obregón and Carlos Rocca Lynn in the classical guitar performance program at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá.
He has participated in masterclasses and workshops with renowned figures such as Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Fernandez, Carlos Barrueco, Entrequatre Guitar Quartet, Nik Bartsch, Trey Gunn, Martin Medeski and Wood, and Butch Morris. In 2010, he had a summer residency at Bang on a Can, studying with Mark Stewart, Evan Zyporyn, and Todd Reynolds, as well as Guitar Craft residential seminars with Robert Fripp. Additionally, he has taken private classes with Fernando Otero, Tony Geballe, Mary Halvorsen, Elliott Sharp, Carlos Alomar, among others. Currently, he continues his music composition studies with composer Ion Marmarinos.
Daniel has graced the stages of prestigious venues such as The León de Greiff Auditorium at the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Lléras Auditorium, Museo de Arte Moderno, Luis Angel Arango Music Hall, Museo Bolivariano de Arte Contemporáneo in Santa Marta, and CasaTeatro el Poblado in Medellín, Colombia. He has also performed at international venues including the New York Public Library, Museo de el Barrio, MassMoca, Detroit Arts Institute, Portland Art Museum, HJCK radio station, and numerous others in Europe, North and South America.
From 2008 to 2017, he co-led the New York City-based “Parias Ensemble” with guitarist composer Luis Ianes, collaborating with artists in New Music, Jazz, and Contemporary Music: Mariel Roberts, Ravi Kittappa, Frantz Loriot, Pascal Niggenkemper, Vasko Dukovski, Marta Topferova. He has also been involved in projects like Guitar Craft, Berlin Guitar Ensemble, Patrick Grant’s Tilted Axes, and Taylor Mac. Recently, he released "String Schemas" on the 7D Media label, featuring the legendary composer and multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp and NYC avant Jazz guitarist Harvey Valdez.
His music has been featured in theater, films, and dance productions. Daniel is a 7D Media artist and his works are available on Bandcamp, Apple Music and all major streaming services.
Daniel is currently based in Portland, Oregon.
