The Zendo at Hidden Valley Zen Center is a meditation hall, transformed for this occasion into a concert venue. Located in a quiet rural setting in San Diego North County under historic hundred-years-old California Oaks, the center is a hidden gem, and an ideal setting for a small musical gathering. Come early and stroll the 20+ acres of the center, rich with the green of recent rains. A Yamaha grand piano will be brought in for this event, meditation cushions will be replaced by chairs, and the large space usually used for meditation will be the perfect setting to hear music. The program will feature Preludes and Fugues by J.S. Bach, Impromptus by Chopin, and the world premiere of new work. This piece, commissioned by pianist Peter Gach and inspired by a scroll at the Zen Center, was composed by Benjamin Krause, who will be present for the premiere. It is a series of seven movements titled Not A Thing But Movement: Seven Reflections on the Eight Winds. It is his musical response to the ‘Eight Winds’ scroll written in the year 1277, a copy of which hangs in the Dining Hall of the Center. Please joins us to discover new music, meet the composer, rediscover some classics - and enjoy the serene setting of the Zendo!
