Host
NY-native pianist Chelsea Randall brings her "American Mavericks" project dedicated to Black American Composers to San Francisco, with an adventurous concert of seldom heard and new works. The program will showcase a range of styles and influences, from the moody and tumultuous "Dream and Variations" by trailblazer Dorothy Rudd Moore, the subtle jazz inflections of “Guido’s Hand: Five Pieces for Piano” by Pulitzer-Prize winner George Walker and spiky works by contemporary composers Jonathan Bailey Holland and Joyce Solomon Moorman, to the atmospheric "The Forest" by Chloe Clarke Smith, an emerging composer from Boston Conservatory.
What's the music?
George Walker - Guido's Hand: Five Pieces for Piano (1986)
Dorothy Rudd Moore - Dream and Variations (excerpts) (1974)
Joyce Solomon Moorman - A Summer Afternoon in South Carolina. 3rd Movement (1983)
Jonathan Bailey Holland - Two Part Inventions for Piano (1993)
Chloe Clarke Smith - The Forest (2013)
