Hi there! This groupmuse will feature a premiere of works by the composer Ulkar Aghayeva, drawing on the traditions of folk and classical Azerbaijani music. Suite for cello and piano "Bayati" (2021) is named after the short four-line folk poems of Azerbaijan. Its 7 movements are based on 7 main Azerbaijani mugham modes. The two piano fugues are inspired by mugham as well and are named after the respective mugham modes. As a composer, Ulkar is committed to exploring emergent musical patterns at the boundaries between tradition and new forms and instrumentation, and these works are her first steps in this direction.
Guest arrival begins at 7:30pm with music to begin around 8pm. Please note we will be taking off our shoes when entering the apartment. Hope to see you there!
