The Handel and Haydn Society, the oldest performing arts organization in the country, a jewel of Boston’s cultural life, and a long-standing friend of Groupmuse, are opening their doors to our community for a Friday Night Out!

The concert opens with the 3rd Symphony by Louise Farrenc — a French woman who’s musical talents were celebrated by Hector Berlioz and Robert Schumann but whose work has been largely lost to the sands of time and Patriarchy. We’re grateful her song is finally being sung — and you’ll be astonished at what the world has been missing.

The second half of the concert is Ludwig van Beethoven’s 6th Symphony, his Pastoral. Among the most beloved works of music ever written, it evokes the spirit of rural life — birds chirping, rain falling, hills rolls, and country people engaged in joyous ritual.

The orchestra is under the direction of the great Laurence Equilbey, who is taking a break from her work leading the Insula Orchestra in Paris to make her premier with H+H. She’s long championed Farrenc’s work, so we’re in good hands!

Tickets typically average $50, but through Groupmuse Nights Out, you’ll get yours for only $20 — that’s a whole lot of beauty and power in one evening for just a Jackson.

Have a great Night Out!

PS H+H has a very thorough public health and safety protocol which you can read here.
