Welcome to our virtual concert! We are excited to share some of our favorite pieces with you.
Tonight's concert begins with exquisite, atmospheric art songs by Debussy from his cycles 'Ariettes oubliees,' 'Fetes Galantes,' as well as the stand alone piece, 'Beau Soir.' This will be followed by familiar arias from 'La Boheme,' 'Gianni Schicchi' (both by Puccini) and 'Le Nozze di Figaro,' (Mozart). We will round out the evening with four pieces by 20th century composer William Bolcom, from his 'Cabaret Works, Volume I,' and two solo piano pieces by Earl Wild, inspired by Gershwin 's melodies: 'The Man I Love,' and "I Got Rhythm.'
A native of France, pianist Anne-Lise Longuemare started her musical studies at the age of four. She later obtained degrees in piano performance from the Montreal Conservatory of Music, The Ecole Normale de Musique Cortot in Paris, Montreal University and UCLA, where she was awarded a Doctorate degree for her work on “Iberia” by the Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz. As a soloist, Anne-Lise has performed in such prestigious venues as Salle Cortot (Paris) Maisonneuve (Montreal), Royce Hall (Los Angeles), The Broad Stage (Santa Monica), Thayer Hall (Los Angeles). An avid chamber musician, she has been invited to many festivals around the globe in France, Austria, Germany, Norway, Canada, Netherlands and the United States, (Musifleuves, Mozart Festival, Arkansas Chamber Festival to name a few). Her most recent Californian performances include Rachmaninov Second Piano concerto, Beethoven Piano Concerto No. 5, Gershwin Piano Concerto in F and Rhapsody in Blue.
Lauren Carter is a soprano who holds a Bachelor of Music (Vocal Performance) from Northwestern University, and a Master of Music (Vocal Performance) from University of Southampton in the UK. She also studied at the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria. Her stage credits include Buffy in the world premiere of 'A Wedding' at Lyric Opera of Chicago, directed by Robert Altman, Soloist in the world premiere of 'Payx a Peyresq' at the Lighthouse Theatre in Poole, England; ensemble in 'La Boheme,' and 'Le Nozze di Figaro' with Co-Opera Co of London, and she currently performs with The LA OperaBabes, an a capella operatic duo formed during the pandemic, and prior to the pandemic was a staff soprano with Camerata Singers of Long Beach. The LA OperaBabes recently appeared in performance for city of West Hollywood Artful Distancing initiative, here on GroupMuse online, and at select private events.
Lauren and Anne Lise have performed several times together in recital around Los Angeles, including at Group Muse events, prior to the pandemic, when we could gather in person, at Thayer Hall downtown Los Angeles, amongst other venues around the city.
