Dear Friends,
This is the first of several (I hope) 'Beethoven at Home' livestreams in which the program will feature the Beethoven symphony cycle arranged for violin and piano. Published in the 19th century during a time when it was not easy for the public to access this music in the orchestral concert hall, these arrangements were commonly produced not only to generate business but those who wanted to hear the music to perform them at home, attempting to grasp at the essence of the musical work. During a time when orchestras have canceled their seasons and we can't experience this music live, I hope this program will fulfill some of that spiritual desire.
Joining me for this first program is Ying Li, who has collaborated with me on my last Groupmuse in October. She is a graduate student at Juilliard and we both hope that this program is not just an intimate chamber music collaboration but full of robust, orchestral energy! Please join us!
Warmly,
Max
What's the music?
Beethoven: Coriolan Overture (arr. Hugo Ulrich)
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5 (arr. Hugo Sitt)
Please note: Symphony No. 6 was originally on this program but Ying and I have decided to postpone it to another Groupmuse as the program would be almost 2 hours, much longer than the expected 45 minute program!
