Pianist Ian Scarfe - one of the most prolific Groupmuse performers to date - has always made storytelling a part of his concert performances. His humorous and casual attitude toward presenting classical music is a refreshing way to get deeper understanding without the stuffy college-theory-class vibe.
His "master class" will take the audience on an interactive exploration, and live performance, of several great masterpieces for the piano. One part history and context, and two parts listening guide, this is a kind of musical break-down that is meant to be enjoyed by any music lover, regardless of their education or experience.
Scarfe will tackle some of the most impressive and expressive works for the piano, including Frederic Chopin's "Barcarolle, Op. 60", Franz Liszt's "Concert Etudes", Bela Bartók's "Suite, Op. 14", and Samuel Barber's "Excursions, Op. 20".
What's the music?
Franz Liszt - Concert Etude in D-flat Major, "un sospiro..."
Frederic Chopin - Barcarolle, Op. 60
Bela Bartók - Suite, Op. 14
Samuel Barber - Excursions, Op. 20
