Please join me for an online live concert with the excellent James Jaffe on cello!
James has strong ties to the SF Bay Area - he's a graduate of the SF Conservatory of Music, and coaches chamber music ensembles at the Crowden Music Center and the California Music Preparatory Academy.
He's put together an exciting program of music that's all from the 20th/21st centuries, with composers from Cambodia, Hungary, and more . (Details below.)
Hope you can join us ...
What's the music?
Sure enough, the adventure did change a little! I've been really into the Rautavaara Solo Sonata recently, even though it's one of the toughest in the repertoire. If you're sad to see the Britten has disappeared, don't worry! A full performance of it is now posted on my YouTube: https://youtu.be/mtltoI2DrA4
Chinary Ung | Khse Buon {sounds of Southeast Asian folk instruments}
Sándor Balassa | Az Utolsó Pásztor {vignette of a Hungarian shepherd}
Einojuhani Rautavaara | Sonata for Cello Solo {epic Finnish landscapes}
Kyle Randall | Peregrinations {a slice of modern-day SF written for James in 2014}
