Take a virtual Groupmuse musical summer staycation with acclaimed violinist, recording artist, and Portland State University professor, Tomás Cotik. First, travel to 18th century Germany for the well-known Prelude to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Cello Suite No. 1, then a performance of three of Georg Philipp Telemann’s amiable and graceful Fantasies for Solo Violin, believed to have been intended for performance in a domestic setting. Travel to Salzburg, Austria for Mozart’s bright and lyrical 3rd violin concerto, composed in the late summer of 1775, when he was 19. For this concerto, the solo violinist will be performing live, with a pre-recorded orchestra accompaniment (maybe a first for Groupmuse?). Then it’s off to Argentina for two tango etudes by 20th Century Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla. Francisco Tárrega’s “Recuerdos de la Alhambra,” evocative of sunny Spain, concludes the performance.
