I will admit everyone at the top of the hour.
Ideally, we'd like to use video chat software so that the audience can join the conversation for Q&A, sharing, and a stronger sense of togetherness during these crazy times. More updates to come π
What's the music?
In these days/weeks spent by ourselves, let's join together for some time-travel back to Bach and Crumb.
Staying at home doesn't have to be a Crumb-y experience. It can actually be a great time, with Bach + Crumb's solo cello works π π·
J.S. Bach - Suite TBA
George Crumb - Solo Sonata
Benjamin Britten - Suite No. 1
Paul Hindemith - Sonata Op. 25 No. 3
Mark Summer - Julie-O
I wanted to invite you all to join me for what I'm hoping will be one of the bright spots for me and other musicians in the next few months.
As I'm sure you're aware, this episode has had major effect on the livelihoods of artists of all genres. Like many, many others, all of my concert work has been cancelled for the foreseeable future, and because our contracts typically have Force Majeure clauses, we are without the income stream that many of us have been building for decades for the duration of this pandemic.
(I want to give a huge shout out to the Mark Morris Dance Group, who are the lone organization in my network who have chosen to honor their financial commitments to their artists, no questions asked. ππ»)
This brings me to Groupmuse, which even before the pandemic was an incredible organization enriching communities through musician-and-host organized house concerts. In the wake of the new shelter-in-place ordinances, they have socially-consciously pivoted their substantial platform from live house concerts to live-streaming concerts in an attempt to maintain the community-building feeling that made going to a Groupmuse so special in the first place.
I will be giving one of these concerts from my apartment in Oakland, where I am happily holed up with my beautiful cello, and equally
beautiful Neumann M-149 microphone (they sound DREAMY together!). All three of us would love to share with you the music of JS Bach (happy birthday to Johann Sebastian. yesterday was his B-day!), George Crumb, and Mark Summer tonight at 6:00 Pacific time (a not so late 9pm Eastern!)
With Groupmuses' platform through Zoom Pro, we will be able to interact before and after the concert, and I would love to hear your reactions to the music, and hear about what you all are doing!
