So some time ago, Groupmuse started collaborating with a Boston-based Mexican composer named José Elizondo, who had the terrific idea to put on a Cinco de Mayo Groupmuse that was a celebration of Mexico's chamber music tradition, which is substantial, but not well known in the States.
We got the Mexican Consulate in Boston to endorse and promote the event, and it's coming up this Saturday! (So it's Cuatro de Mayo. Cinco was a Sunday.)
The concert is at the beautiful First Baptist Church (848 Beacon St, Newton, MA 02459) in Newton Center starting at 6pm (music starts later, as per usual with Groupmuses). The church is less than a minute's walk from the Newton Center stop on the Green Line.
The performance will feature a selection of short works by
Manuel M. Ponce
Ricardo Castro
Silvestre Revueltas
Javier Alvarez
and
José Elizondo
brought to us with the fantastic musicianships of
Saúl Bitrán
Sebastian Bäverstam
Yannick Rafalimanana
Mana Washio
Tony Rymer
Lisa Fujita
Sarah Koenig-Plonskier
and
Elizabeth Oka
Food and drink will be provided! There is no price for admission but we do request a donation of at least $5 for the musicians.
We greatly hope to see you there! No need to RSVP, just show up and bring your friends!
