A Far Cry began as a group of friends who wanted to forge a new path in the classical music world. They knew that while Boston had an abundance of great music, there was still a need for something new: a chamber orchestra of true equals, with no conductor, where each musician’s ideas would have an impact. They shared a belief that every person deserves to be heard and treated with love, trust, and respect. They banded together to create a shared leadership model that was radically different from the hierarchical structures in the field. The first performance was electrifying!
The rest is history. Almost 18 years later, we’re just as excited to play music for you as we were that first time we walked onstage. The values that we set out in the early days are still at the heart of how we share music and what we choose to play.
Now we’re looking to the future and how we can make a lasting impact, and we need your support! We want to continue providing a home for many generations of musicians to come. We want to foster concert experiences that show the power of music to electrify and unite performers and listeners across the globe.
