About
The New York Flute Quintet, based in Flushing, Queens, comprises current students from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College: Mina, Zoe, Christian, Marisa, and Jason. Founded in 2023, the group has gained recognition for its unique arrangements of well-known orchestral pieces and flute repertoire, including newly composed works. Jason and Christian, along with Zoe, are undergraduate students, while Mina and Marisa are graduate students studying under the tutelage of Judith Mendenhall, a flutist from the American Ballet Theatre.
Mina and Christian have achieved success in the ACSM Concerto Competition, with Mina winning and Christian being a finalist. Additionally, Jason and Mina have both been finalists in the ACSM Bach Competition for consecutive years. Each member of the quintet boasts extensive experience, having performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Queens College Orchestra, Opera Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles throughout their musical careers.
Music
The New York Flute Quintet choice of repertoire consist of French Romantic, Classical, and newly composed repertoire. The Quintet has performed pieces by French and Romantic composers including an arrangement of Maurice Ravel's "Daphnis et ChloƩ" Second Suite, Franz Schubert's "Trockne Blumen" Introduction and Variations for flute and piano.
