My name is Joel Weik. I am an acoustic fingerstyle guitarist. I have been playing guitar for over 20 years. In the early 2000s I formed a band called String Theorie, performing and recording instrumental world fusion all around Connecticut! These days I am focusing on solo guitar work. Acoustic instrumental fingerstyle guitar is my love, my passion, my hobby, and major creative outlet!

Music

I primarily play acoustic fingerstyle guitar. My technical inspiration comes from foundational artists in this genre including Michael Hedges, Don Ross, Preston Reed, Laurence Juber, Nancy Tucker, and Alex de Grassi. Fingerstyle guitar is notable for its use of tap-harmonics, two-hand fretting, rhythmic bass lines, and the blending of melody and rhythm to create a seamless sonic experience. Initially a purist, I have opened up to integrating pedals into my performances which adds a lot of depth and nuance! (I have to leave this disclaimer though -- I do not use a looper. So many people ask, I think it is worth clarifying!)
