About

I earned my Master's in Flute Performance from Hartt (in Hartford, CT), and my Bachelor's in Flute Performance and Music Education at SUNY Fredonia (the boonies, ahem, Fredonia, NY). I play classical music, both old and newly commissioned. My personal website is www.MelanieChirignan.org, and with my quintet's website is www.Quintocracy.org

Music

I am a chamber musician at my core. I love to collaborate with others and most frequently play in duos with guitar, piano, harp, or cello, in a trio with harp and viola, with piano and cello or in a quartet with jazz piano trio.

For solo programs, I have a mix of solo flute works for flute, piccolo, alto flute, from baroque, to modern day. I really love extended techniques like singing and playing, and percussive sounds found in beat box flute, especially when used in an approachable, tonal way. I love to hear, "I didn't know the flute could do all that" after a concert!

My training is in classical music, but lately I've been improvising with pianist Melanie Hardage, and enjoying co-creating music with her.
