Baymele @baymele
Violin, Accordion, & Cello Trio
About
Founded in 2018, Baymele — "little tree" in Yiddish — is a Klezmer and Eastern European folk trio rooted in the San Francisco Bay Area. Avid ethnographic researchers, we perform newly rediscovered gems from Ashkenazi Jewish, Polish, Romanian, Ukrainian, and Hungarian folk music traditions, alongside original compositions.
In 2022, we released an album of new Yiddish art song, Kosmopolitn, with duet Tsvey Brider.
Baymele features Matthew Stein on violin, Dmitri Gaskin on accordion, and Misha Khalikulov on cello.
Music
We perform klezmer, Polish, Romanian, and other Eastern European folk musics. Our repertoire includes some well-known tunes, others we've discovered in archives and source materials that have sat untouched for over a century, and yet others that are our original compositions.
